Some songs that I like
Hello :>
I wanna write about some songs that I like, why I like them, and the ways that they make me feel.
Moonsetter (by Toby Fox)
I first discovered this song back in 2018 when I started getting into the music from the webcomic Homestuck. (Strangely enough, I wouldn't go on to read Homestuck until this year, 6 years later, but that's a topic for another time.)
Perhaps partially rooted in nostalgia (is that the right to term to use for only a period of 6 years?), my affinity for this song comes from the feelings of discovery and wonder about music and Homestuck in general that I felt back then. It's a song that reminds me of good times and positive memories, and always makes me feel better when I'm feeling down.
The three main instruments, the piano, the violin, and the cello, all work so wonderfully together to convey a sense of whimsy and friendship, which is perfectly suited for the page of the comic it plays in.
Definitely one of my favourite songs, if not my top favourite song of all time. <3
Aria Math (by C418)
I first discovered Minecraft back in 2014, and mostly played in it's Creative Mode, building all sorts of random things and having a blast. While I adore all of Minecraft's music, Aria Math has always stuck out to me.
It was the one I heard the most, considering it's use as a Creative Mode exclusive song, as well as just it being the one that happened to be played the most frequently for me.
This is one is absolutely rooted within nostalgia, but is that such a bad thing? This song reminds me of a simpler time, when I would just play Minecraft, and I wouldn't have to think about so many other things in life besides just "did I do my homework yet?"
People often talk about the recognizable Pan Drum instrument that plays throughout the whole song, but where my heart lies is the plucked string instrument that comes in about two-thirds through the song (I'm not quite sure what it is, but I think it may either be a Koto or a Guzheng).
The way the bowed strings swell near the very end, leading to conclusion of that signature melancholy melody on that plucked string, accompanied by a faint shaker, always just takes me away in the best way possible.
Love Like You (by Rebecca Sugar and aivi&surasshu)
Steven Universe is one of my favourite shows of all time, with it's soundtrack being my favourite soundtrack of any animated series.
Like the others, my love of this song is both rooted within nostalgic pleasant memories, as well as a general love for the instrumentation and lyrics.
There's a kind of magical melancholy etched within the soul of this song, which is a vibe I find a lot of comfort in within certain scenarios.
familiar faces (by C418)
Once again, a song with a melonchloic nostalgic feeling that just tickles my brain in all the right ways.
For the longest time I couldn't remember the name of this song, so when I found it again randomly one day when browsing C418's Bandcamp page, I had it on loop for about an hour.
